HHRC E-Mailing List

Welcome to the Heart Health Resource Centre's "listserv" where participants can pose questions, post information, exchange ideas and problem-solve on issues related to heart health. This format is not moderated, just monitored, by the HHRC. Simply submit your thoughts on programs, process, partners, etc., and it will be received by everyone on the list. They then choose how they wish to respond.

Join our list

This is an open unmoderated list operated by the Heart Health Resource Centre. Only subscribers can post and receive messages on the list. This means that if you join this list, you will not receive questions on health issues or requests for services from members of the general public.

To join the email list, please email us: heart-l-owner@hhrc.net

Once your application has been processed, you will receive a "Welcome" message from the list administrator with technical details about the operation of the list.

E-mailing list tips

Focus of the list

We ask subscribers to please keep the purpose of this list in mind when posting messages. Is your question or posting something that is likely to be relevant or of interest to the other subscribers on the list because it deals with heart health or chronic disease issues in Ontario? We encourage list subscribers to ask their questions and share information, but please remember that many subscribers already receive a considerable volume of e-mail and that people have subscribed to this list because they have a particular interest in these specific issues. Please refrain from spamming the list with irrelevant messages.

Unmoderated list

As a general rule, this is an unmoderated list, meaning that messages posted to the list are not edited or approved before they go out to the other members subscribed to the list.

Responding to items posted on the list

In many cases, it will be appropriate to post your response to a message to the entire list, particularly if there is an ongoing group discussion on an item. You can do this by simply clicking on "Reply", which will send your message back to the entire list. However, in some cases, it would be more appropriate to send your response privately to another subscriber, rather than filling up other subscribers’ mailboxes with a reply that is really of little relevance or interest to the entire list. In such cases, make sure you do not use your automatic "Reply" function, and instead insert just the name of the individual recipient that you intend.

Language

Subscribers are welcome to post their messages in French, English, or another language of their choice. Messages will not be translated by the list manager. As a consequence, those posted in a single language may not be understood by all subscribers.

Respect other subscribers

The list administrator asks that all subscribers treat others on the list with courtesy and respect, refraining from personal attacks and hateful, defamatory or discriminatory statements. The list administrator always has the right to intervene in cases where such basic rules of participating in the list are not being respected, including removing someone from the list if such conduct continues. The Heart Health Resource Centre does NOT assume responsibility for vetting messages before they are posted; any liability for posting defamatory or otherwise objectionable material belongs solely to the person who posted the message.

Auto-responders

If you plan to not be accessing your e-mail for an extended period of time, please do not set up an "auto-response" to any incoming e-mail messages. If you set your e-mail program to automatically respond to every message you receive with a message stating that you are away, then each and every other member of the list will repeatedly receive this message from you in their mailbox, much to their annoyance and frustration. Please be considerate of the other list members. The list administrator may temporarily remove a person from the list if this is a problem, and the person can be re-subscribed later.

If you do set your auto-responder, please be considerate of other list members and edit your subscription preferences to "Disable Mail Delivery" for the period you will be away. To change your subscription preferences, please click here. By selecting this option you are placing your subscription to HEART-L on hold temporarily. Upon your return, simply "Enable Mail Delivery" and you will begin to receive postings from the list. Please visit the archives for this list in order to view the discussion that took place while you were away.

Frequently asked questions

Please pass on information about this list to other people you think may be interested in joining. If you have questions or problems with the list, you can contact the list administrator by sending a message to: heart-l-owner@hhrc.net

View list archives

Messages posted to the list are archived by the mailing list. This can be a useful reference tool – subscribers can search for past postings from others on a given topic that may yield helpful information, ideas or resources. Only subscribers can access the archive of messages. Subscribers will receive instructions on accessing the archive when they join the list.

Privacy statement

This is an open list. However, no one can use the "who" command to see who is on the list, and the Heart Health Resource Centre will not release the e-mail addresses of subscribers. While this offers some privacy to subscribers, obviously if you post a message (unless you conceal yourself from this list by editing your subscription preferences) your e-mail address will appear on the list. Also, remember that not much is truly private on the Internet.
