Heart Health Resource Centre
The HHRC is a project of the Ontario Public Health Association and is funded through the Government of Ontario, Ministry of Health Promotion. The HHRC is a member of the Healthy Communities Consortium, a group of resource centres working collaboratively to support those within the Healthy Communities Ontario approach.
Mandate
The mandate of the HHRC isto enhance the capacity of public health professionals and community partners to coordinate community planning efforts and mobilize their communities towards the development of healthy public policy within the Healthy Communities Ontario approach.
Initiatives
The HHRC responds to the learning and consultative needs of Healthy Communities Partnerships while keeping abreast of new developments in chronic disease prevention and health promotion in the field. It offers a comprehensive mix of supports designed to enhance the skills, knowledge and abilities of those engaged in planning community- based chronic disease prevention programs and community mobilization for policy change. These include consultation and coaching services, training and development activities and information and knowledge exchange.
Networking and Partnerships
The HHRC partners with other resource centres, professional associations and government to develop educational opportunities and resources on current topics of interest such as active transportation, strategic planning and advocacy.
The HHRC networks with organizations such as research agencies, universities, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), Ontario Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance (OCDPA) and Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada (CDPAC) to identify potential partnerships and to further the enhancement of local CDP activities across Ontario.
