The Heart Health Resource Centre (HHRC) was established in 1993 to support the community-based partnerships of the Ontario Heart Health Program (OHHP). Throughout its 17 year history, and three incarnations of the OHHP, the HHRC provided capacity-building supports and resources to those working in community-based health promotion initiatives. The HHRC was funded by the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport and was housed at the Ontario Public Health Association.
In 2009, the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport (MHPS) introduced the Healthy Communities Fund. This initiative brought together several existing programs of the MHPS, including the Ontario Heart Health Program. As part of Healthy Communities, the Heart Health Resource Centre was asked to form a collaborative consortium with three other provincial resource centres. This new collaborative operated as the Healthy Communities Consortium for two years before re-branding as HC Link.
This website is a historical perspective of the work of the Heart Health Resource Centre. Additionally, the history of the Ontario Heart Health Program, the Ontario Heart Health Network and many of their resources are also housed here. These programs played an important role in health promotion in Ontario, and while they continue to under different names, their rich history will remain captured here.
